Motor yacht Ingmar (1928)

This is Ingmar, a 12 m (l.o.a.) motor yacht designed by C.G. Pettersson. It (Ingmar is a male name!) was built in 1919 at Larssons Motorbåtsvarv, Saltsjöbaden, Sweden for the owner Karl Grönstedt. Bertil Norberg took the picture (ab.) 1926. My restoration and colorization of an image in the Maritime Museum of Sweden archive (Digital Museum).

Classic luxury yacht Nahlin in Öresund

Sir James Dyson´s 300 ft (91.4 m) motor yacht Nahlin passed by at noon today on its way to the island of Ven. Unfortunately the light was not ideal, but I hope you can still get an impression of how beautiful this classic yacht is. Nahlin was sailing very close to the Danish coast in Öresund.

"Nahlin is a luxury yacht and one of the last of three large steam yachts constructed in the UK. She was built for Lady Yule, heiress of Sir David Yule, and was launched in 1930.[3] She is owned by British industrial entrepreneur Sir James Dyson, who purchased her from Sir Anthony Bamford, Chairman of JCB.[4][5] The name Nahlin is taken from a Native American word meaning "fleet of foot" and the yacht has a figurehead depicting a Native American wearing a feathered headdress beneath the bowsprit." Motor yacht La Paloma and its builders (1910)

The builders posing at the launching of motor yacht "La Paloma" in Örebro in 1910. The owner, mill owner, engineer Carl Engelbrektsson is on the right with a rope. His sweater is marked with the name of the boat and the letter KAK (Kungliga Automobil Klubben - The Royal Automobile Club). At that time the KAK activities also included motor boats. My colorization of court photographer Samuel Lindskog´s photo in the Swedish Digital Museum.

Schooner Thor Heyerdahl and expedition motor yacht Capella C met in Öresund

German schooner Thor Heyerdahl and UK registered expedition motor yacht
Capella C met this afternoon in Öresund.

Schooner Thor Heyerdahl:
"Thor Heyerdahl (named after Thor Heyerdahl), originally named Tinka, later Marga Henning, Silke, and Minnow, was built as a freight carrying motor ship with auxiliary sails at the shipyard Smit & Zoon in Westerbroek, Netherlands, in 1930. Her original homeport being Hamburg, Germany, she was used for the next 50 years as a freighter. Eventually sailing unter the flag of Panama as Minnow and then awaiting further use in Germany, she was bought in 1979 by two sailing enthusiasts, who turned the now run-down ship into a topsail schooner to use it for sail training, especially for teenagers and young adults. One of the two original owners was Detlef Soitzek, who had sailed with the Norwegian anthropologist, zoologist, ethnologist and adventurer Thor Heyerdahl on his Tigris expedition in 1977/1978, and suggested to name the ship after the famous researcher and adventurer. The ownership of the ship was subsequently turned over to an association.
From spring to fall, Thor Heyerdahl sails mainly the Baltic Sea and participates in international sail training events. In winter, the ship has repeatedly crossed the Atlantic Ocean and sailed in the Caribbean, especially as classroom under sails with teenage crews." (Wikipedia)

Expedition motor yacht Capella C:
"This vessel was built at BOELE’s SHEEPSWERFEN EN  shipyard in Holland and launched in 1968 as “Her Majesty Ship Bloomendhal” A905, an auxiliary hydrographic vessel of the Royal Deutch Navy.
Later on she became a Pilot Boat for the Rotterdam Harbour’s administration. In 1989 an Australian/Irish gentleman refitted her as a private yacht, and named her Capella C.  The Stars Capella A and Capella B are “Capella”. This double star appears as only one for the human’s eyes and it is one of the brightness stars of the sky. Capella is a well know star for the celestial navigators.
M.Y. Capella C has hosted prestigious guests like members of the British Society and H.S.H. the Prince Rainier III of Monaco."

Icebreaking mega yacht Legend in Öresund

The Class 1 ice-breaking ship Legend, built in 1973, has this year been converted into a charter yacht "capable of carrying 26 guests in total luxury".

The stern of the now 77.3 m long ship has been extended by 3.6 meters and is equipped with a swimming pool.

Legend also has a commercially certified helicopter landing pad and a submarine is stored in a garage on the forward deck. Among the other niceties on board one could mention a gym, a Balinese spa with sauna, Jacuzzi and beauty salon, a movie theatre and a medical suite.

This summer Legend is available for charters in northern Europe for  503.00 USD a week. (The helicopter and the submarine will come at an additional cost).
