Hamlet´s Kronborg castle is always an imposing sight on the opposite side of Öresund:

Christmas Markets in Helsingør

The Christmas "season" in Helsingør (Elsinore) begins officially tomorrow, but a lot of activities and decorations were already today brightening the grey late November day:

Kronborg Castle and the Christmas tree.

A close-up of the Kronborg Castle Christmas tree.

The route to the Christmas market inside the castle is well marked.

This Christmas "hut" is standing in the inner castle yard.

Two "Christmas" swans, with the Christmas tree in the backround.

The swans again.

The largest Christmas market is the one at the Axeltorv square.

Christmas decorations for sale.

Roasted almonds.

Socialising.

Christmas flowers.

Waiting for customers.

The small flower market close to the railways station.

Ordinary shops in Helsingør of course also had their "Christmas markets", with
many customers from Sweden. This one volunteered for the picture.

The wine and liqueur stores had a good day.

Øresund evening pictures from September 11

The magic of the Nordic summer nights is gone now in Øresund, but darker September nights can also be very peaceful and enjoyable ....

The Helsingborg based schooner Nina.

Houses in Hittarp

This was the view from the Hittarp bathing platform tonight. As you can see, the houses in Hittarp are of various age and style:

And this was the view from the platform over to the Danish side of the Sound:

The Danish Royal Yacht Dannebrog in the Sound

The Royal Yacht Dannebrog approaching Helsingør tonight.

The Danish Royal Yacht Dannebrog was this evening going northwards in Øresund. Whether the Queen and the Prince Consort are on board, I do not know. The next official summer cruise is due to begin on September 2:

The Queen and The Prince Consort are on a summer cruise with The Royal Yacht Dannebrog and are paying visits to Skanderborg, Billund/Grindsted, Næstved, Bornholm and Christiansø from 2-6 September.

More about the summer cruise here.

The view from the St. Ibb's church on the island of Ven

The medieval church of St. Ibb's, high on a hill above the Kyrkbacken marina, is my favourite location on the island of Ven. They view from the church in all directions is just breathtaking.

Traditional brick houses in the Kyrkbacken port village.

The view from the St. Ibb's to the north-east.

The Greek crude oil tanker Minerva Ellie (229 m x 42 m) approaching Ven
last night. You can see the Kronborg castle in the background on the right.

A local farmer is busy working while the Minerva Ellie passes by on its
way to Ust Luga.

The bulk carrier Twinkle Island (229 m x 32 m, Marshall Is. registry) also on its
way to Ust Luga last night.

The Twinkle Island a couple of minutes later.

A somewhat closer look at the brand new Twinkle Island.

From the church hill you can also observe marine traffic in
the Kyrkbacken marina.
