An oligarch´s idea of holiday fun

Early this morning, Russian oligarch - and owner of the Chelsea football team - was on his way to Copenhagen onboard his mega yacht MY Eclipse. Here are some facts about the world´s second largest privately owned yacht:

M/Y Eclipse is a luxury motor yacht constructed by Blohm + Voss of Hamburg, Germany. Her exterior and interior were designed by Terence Disdale Design and her naval architect was Francis Design.[4] The yacht was delivered to Russian businessman Roman Abramovich on 9 December 2010. At 163.5 metres (536 ft) long,[5] Eclipse is the world's second largest private yacht, 17.3 metres (57 ft) shorter than Azzam, which launched in April, 2013.[6 ''

Eclipse has two helicopter pads, 24 guest cabins, two swimming pools, several hot tubs, and a disco hall.[7] It is also equipped with three launch boats and a mini-submarine that is capable of submerging to 50 metres. Approximately 70 crew members are needed to operate the yacht and serve the guests. (Wikipedia)

The classic luxury yacht Sanssouci Star in Helsingør

The classic luxury yacht Sanssouci Star has been available for charter in Copenhagen this summer. The 53.5 m x 7.70 m ship's owner is the Danish industrialist and Master Mariner Erik Hays Thøgersen.

Sanssouci Star, which has a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure, was built in 1982 by the Husum Schiffwerft GmbH in Germany. The ship has seven cabins for 12 guests, and a crew of 10.

One would imagine that the yacht has primarily been chartered by companies, because the price for e.g. one week's cruising in Scandinavia or the Baltic Sea is of course not cheap - 65.000 euro (79.000 during peak summer season).

Yesterday the Sanssouci Star was moored at the Helsingør yacht harbour:

Sail training yacht S/y Navigator in Helsinki

During my brief visit to Helsinki last week, I was pleased to see the classic sailing yacht S/y Navigator moored at the Katajanokka marina. The 16.5 m x 3.58 m yawl, designed by Jarl Lindblom, has an interesting history. It was built in 1947 as a private yacht for the Finnish industrialist and shipowner Hans von Rettig. At the time the yacht was one of the best equipped in Finland. It was e.g. the first Finnish yacht with a jib furling system.

In 1980 the boat was donated to the Finland Swedish scout association to be used as a sail training yacht. The boat, which originally was called S/y Clipper, was at the same time renamed S/y Navigator.

In 1997 - 2006 the Navigator was completely refitted.

A German Grand Banks yacht in Karlskrona

I have always been a fan of classic Grand Banks boats. A couple of days ago it was a pleasure to watch the German Grand Banks (42?) Bran in the Karlskrona archipelago:

The classically lined motor yacht Jamaica Bay passing Kronborg castle

Motor yacht Jamaica Bay meets Kronborg castle on July 3, 2013.

The 60 m motor yacht Jamaica Bay (Marshall Islands registry) this morning passed Hamlet's Kronborg castle on its way northwards in the Sound. The Jamaica Bay, custom built by German Nobiskrug in Rendsburg, was delivered to her owner in 2010. The classically lined yacht is designed (exterior and interior) by the Dutch yacht designer Felix Buytendijk

A gorgeous German sloop in front of Kronborg castle

This gorgeous German sloop was a joy to the eye as it passed Kronborg castle and Helsingør this evening. Unfortunately I was not able to identify the boat. Maybe somebody could help with the identification?

Marine traffic in Øresund on the evening of June 28, 2013

There was a lot of marine traffic in Øresund last night. Here is part of it:

The  large cruise ship Adventure of the Seas (311 m x 33 m ) was on its way from
Copenhagen to Tallinn.
The Finnish cargo ship Hjördis (120 m x 18 m) was going to Terneuzen late in the evening.
The Dutch container ship Njord's (133 m x 19 m) destination was Vlissingen.
The Swedish sailing boat Josefine was struggling a little with the spinnaker.

The Beneteau Oceanis 58 yacht Flipje in Helsingborg

Last night I shot these pictures of the gorgeous Dutch yacht Flipje - a Beneteau Oceanis 58 - in the Helsingborg marina. Flipje, is the mascot of the Dutch city of Tiel, where you can find a statue, and even a museum, dedicated to this figure, which was associated with a once famous jam factory.

PS

If you would like to charter a Beneteau Oceanis 58, I noticed the e.g. the Blue Passion is available at Simpson Bay, Tortola.
