The cruise ferry Stena Vision leaving Karlskrona

The Stena Line cruise ferry Stena Vision is here leaving the port of Karlskrona on its way to  Gdynia in Poland. The ferry was launched in August 1981 as the Stena Scandinavica. However, due to problems at the construction yard, completion was delayed and it wasn't until 1987 that she entered service. The Stena Vision has a passenger capacity of 1700, and it can carry up to 460 cars.

A German Grand Banks yacht in Karlskrona

I have always been a fan of classic Grand Banks boats. A couple of days ago it was a pleasure to watch the German Grand Banks (42?) Bran in the Karlskrona archipelago:

A speed boat race in the Baltic?

There must be some kind of a speed boat race going on in the Baltic right now. A couple of minutes ago, Marine Traffic Com live AIS map showed several boats going extremely fast in the waters between Ystad and Bornholm. For example the fastest of these three boats had a speed of 89.6 knots, which is equivalent to 165.9392 km/h!

Costa Luminosa in Øresund

The Italian owned Costa Luminosa early this morning entered Øresund on its way to Copenhagen. The impressive 294 meter long cruise ship, which was built in 2009 by Fincantieri - Cantieri Navali Italiani , takes 2260 passengers. Later today the Luminosa will begin its Baltic cruise with stop-overs in Tallin, St. Petersburg, Helsinki and Stockholm. This is an ideal time to cruise in the Baltic, because usually the weather is very fine in May and June.

The Costa Luminosa is called "the ship of the light". The videos on the Costa home page will show you why.
