Classic luxury yacht Nahlin in Öresund

Sir James Dyson´s 300 ft (91.4 m) motor yacht Nahlin passed by at noon today on its way to the island of Ven. Unfortunately the light was not ideal, but I hope you can still get an impression of how beautiful this classic yacht is. Nahlin was sailing very close to the Danish coast in Öresund

"Nahlin is a luxury yacht and one of the last of three large steam yachts constructed in the UK. She was built for Lady Yule, heiress of Sir David Yule, and was launched in 1930.[3] She is owned by British industrial entrepreneur Sir James Dyson, who purchased her from Sir Anthony Bamford, Chairman of JCB.[4][5] The name Nahlin is taken from a Native American word meaning "fleet of foot" and the yacht has a figurehead depicting a Native American wearing a feathered headdress beneath the bowsprit." Schooner Thor Heyerdahl and expedition motor yacht Capella C met in Öresund

German schooner Thor Heyerdahl and UK registered expedition motor yacht
Capella C met this afternoon in Öresund.

Schooner Thor Heyerdahl:
"Thor Heyerdahl (named after Thor Heyerdahl), originally named Tinka, later Marga Henning, Silke, and Minnow, was built as a freight carrying motor ship with auxiliary sails at the shipyard Smit & Zoon in Westerbroek, Netherlands, in 1930. Her original homeport being Hamburg, Germany, she was used for the next 50 years as a freighter. Eventually sailing unter the flag of Panama as Minnow and then awaiting further use in Germany, she was bought in 1979 by two sailing enthusiasts, who turned the now run-down ship into a topsail schooner to use it for sail training, especially for teenagers and young adults. One of the two original owners was Detlef Soitzek, who had sailed with the Norwegian anthropologist, zoologist, ethnologist and adventurer Thor Heyerdahl on his Tigris expedition in 1977/1978, and suggested to name the ship after the famous researcher and adventurer. The ownership of the ship was subsequently turned over to an association.
From spring to fall, Thor Heyerdahl sails mainly the Baltic Sea and participates in international sail training events. In winter, the ship has repeatedly crossed the Atlantic Ocean and sailed in the Caribbean, especially as classroom under sails with teenage crews." (Wikipedia)

Expedition motor yacht Capella C:
"This vessel was built at BOELE’s SHEEPSWERFEN EN  shipyard in Holland and launched in 1968 as “Her Majesty Ship Bloomendhal” A905, an auxiliary hydrographic vessel of the Royal Deutch Navy.
Later on she became a Pilot Boat for the Rotterdam Harbour’s administration. In 1989 an Australian/Irish gentleman refitted her as a private yacht, and named her Capella C.  The Stars Capella A and Capella B are “Capella”. This double star appears as only one for the human’s eyes and it is one of the brightness stars of the sky. Capella is a well know star for the celestial navigators.
M.Y. Capella C has hosted prestigious guests like members of the British Society and H.S.H. the Prince Rainier III of Monaco."

Energy Observer in Öresund

My first impression when I saw this boat last night: What a strange looking sailing yacht! Actually it was one of the most interesting boats in the Sound this summer: Energy Observer - the first hydrogen vessel in the world.

Here is some background:
"Energy Observer, launched in April 2017, is the first vessel in the world to both generate and be powered by hydrogen. Developed in collaboration with engineers from the CEA-LITEN [fr] the boat will test and prove the efficiency of a full production chain that relies on the coupling of different renewable energies. Following its launch[1], the boat left in the Spring 2017[2] for a world tour lasting 6 years in order to optimize its technologies and lead an expedition that will serve durable solutions for energy transition. The boat was nominated first French ambassador of the Sustainable Development Goals by the French Ministry for an ecological and solidary transition." (Wikipedia)

"Energy Observer is the first hydrogen vessel, aiming for the energy autonomy, with zero greenhouse gas emissions or fine particles. This former race boat, an outstanding competitor has been fully transformed into a vessel of the future, powered by electric propulsion thanks to a mix of renewable energies and a hydrogen production system that produces carbon-free hydrogen on board using seawater."

Megayacht Le Grand Bleu in Öresund

The megayacht Le Grand Bleu passed by early this morning (about 04.00 AM). The ship is probably one of the most expensive personal gifts in recent times. In 2006 oligarch Roman Abramovic (net worth USD 12,9 billion) gave the ship to his somewhat less rich Russian-American friend and business partner Eugene Shvidler (net worth 1,6 billion USD) after a gamble.
"Le Grand Bleu is one of the largest private yachts in the world at 113-metre (371 ft) in length. She was built at the Bremer Vulkan yard in Bremen, Germany, and was launched in 2000. She was designed by Stefano Pastrovich and constructed by Kusch Yachts. She was previously owned by John McCaw, Jr., an American businessman, who sold her to Russian businessman Roman Abramovich in 2002. Abramovich had her refitted to his own preferences by HDW in Kiel, Germany. This included an internal refit and the addition of a 5-metre (16 ft) swim platform.
In June 2006, Abramovich gave Le Grand Bleu in a gamble to her current owner, friend and business partner Eugene Shvidler."
(Wiki)
"The yacht has a crew of 65 and carries a veritable arsenal of tenders and watertoys, both on her aft decks and in her extensive below-deck garage, where there is a large aquarium. Her watercraft include a 22 metre Dubois-designed sailing yacht, Bellatrix; a 21 metre Sunseeker motor yacht; two 11 metre, 60-knot Buzzi sports boats; and a landing craft to carry a 4x4 Land Rover used for excursions ashore." STS Sedov in Öresund

STS Sedov - the world´s largest sail training ship with a length of 117,5 meter - passed by this morning. Even without sails the Sedov is always a mighty sight.
"STS Sedov (Russian: Седов), formerly Magdalene Vinnen II (1921–1936) and Kommodore Johnsen (–1948), is a four-masted steel barque that for almost 80 years was the largest traditional sailing ship in operation. Originally built as a German cargo ship, Sedov is today a sail training vessel, training cadets from the universities of Murmansk, Saint Petersburg and Arkhangelsk. She participates regularly in the big maritime international events as a privileged host and has also been a regular participant in The Tall Ships' Races." (Wiki)
