Danish tugboat Vitus with load struggling in Øresund?

The Danish tug Vitus, towing something that looks like a crane, seems to be struggling close Hornbæk in the Sound. The 28 m x 8 m tugboat has been lying practically still for at least an hour. Vitus is on its way to Esbjerg.

It is, of course, possible that Vitus is just waiting for better weather in the Kattegat.

On this marine.traffic.com map you can see that Vitus made a loop and started going back towards Helsingør. Then it again turned around, and, as I mentioned, is now lying more or less still.

Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas passing by

One of the largest cruise ships this season, the 311 m x 38.6 m Adventure of the Seas, was tonight going northwards in the Sound on its way from Copenhagen to Tallinn. The number of crew is 1.180 and the passenger capacity is 3114.

This is how the Cruise Critic describes the ship, built by Aker Finnyards in Turku, 
Finland and completed in 2001:

Adventure of the Seas debuted in 2001 as the third in the series of Royal Caribbean's game-changing Voyager-class vessels. Though Adventure has been bypassed in size and amenities by the Freedom-class trio and the massive Oasis-class twins, it's still among the world's larger ships, with a range of the most uncruise-like venues at sea, such as a rollerblading track, ice-skating rink and rock-climbing wall -- not to mention the bustling hub that is Royal Promenade, a shopping mall-esque boulevard of retail stores, bars and cafes. -

This ship is so well designed -- with lots of very distinctly themed rooms and with even the larger venues like the Lyric Theater and Imperial Lounge feeling unexpectedly cozy -- that Adventure of the Seas has the potential to spoil first-timers and even seduce some of us crusty ol' cruise traditionalists.

The Royal Swedish Navy's patrol boat Ärlig 90 going northwards in the Sound

The Royal Swedish Navy's Tapper class patrol boat Ärlig 90 (21,9 m x 5,4 m) was this Sunday morning going northwards in the Sound. The ship's speed was 20,5 kn.

Ro-ro/passenger ship Isabella 1 (former Nordlandia) in Øresund

Earlier this week it was announced that the Åland based Rederi Ab Eckerö has sold its ro-ro/passenger ship Nordlandia to Isabella Cruise Co. Ltd, Belize. The 153 m x 24 m ship, now renamed Isabella 1, was this morning on its way from Pojo in Finland to Danish Skagen for anchorage. There is no information about its future use, but the name of the new owner company could mean that it will re-enter service as a cruise ship.

The historic coal-fired tugboat/icebreaker S.S. Bjørn approaching its home port Helsingør

A classic steamship in action is always a nice sight. Watching the beautifully restored, over 100 years old  tug/icebreaker S.S. Bjørn approach and enter its home port Helsingør late this afternoon was a particular pleasure.

The Hittarp reef

The Hittarp Reef is one of my favorite spots in the neighborhood. Out on the reef you have a feeling of standing in the middle of the Sound, surrounded by a constantly changing environment.

Here are a few of my " reef observations" from today:

The MS Emerald Princess on its way to Oslo

The MS Emerald Princess (290 m x 36 m) was tonight going northwards in the Sound on its way from Copenhagen to Oslo. The ship is one of the largest in the Princess fleet, and has accomodation for 3080 guests. The number of crew is 1200.
