A Norwegian master baker and his family

The family of Norwegian master baker and business manager Olaf Andreas Jens Wilhelm Munthe (1851- 1914) and his wife Helene Andrea Støren (1857–1939), photographed in ab. 1905 - 1908 by the Oslo photographer Gustav Borgen.
One of the sons, Abraham Wilhelm Støren Munthe (1883–1965) became the head librarian of the University in Oslo. The daughter Lagertha Munthe (1888 – 1984) became a painter. The youngest daughter, Karen Munthe, died in 1920 at the age of 20.
Munthe is a Norwegian family which is believed to have its origin in Gent, Flanders. Ludvig Munthe - a resident of Lübeck, Germany - born ab. 1520 is counted as the first ever known member of the family. His son Ludvig, who was bishop of Bergen, became the founder of the Munthe family in Norway. (Another brother, Hans Munthe, became the founder of the Swedish branch of the family.)

Staff on the Russian hospital ship Mongolia during the Russo-Japanese war

This photograph (here partially coloured by me) shows doctors and nurses onboard the Russian hospital ship Mongolia in Port Arthur during the Russo-Japanese war. The photo was published in the Swedish magazine Allers Familj-Journal in 1905. 

The Swedish painter Georg Pauli´s 50th anniversary party in 1905

On July 2 in 1905 the Swedish painter Georg Pauli celebrated his 50th birthday at his new summer residence in the Stockholm archipelago. The guests were mostly leading representatives of the Swedish and Scandinavian cultural elite:
Nr 1 is His Royal Highness, Prince Eugen, an eminent painter himself; nr 2 is Pauli´s wife Hanna, a leading painter herself; nr 3 is Georg Pauli; nr 4 is the writer Ellen Key: nr 5 is the painter Richard Bergh; nr. 11 is the publisher K.O. Bonnier and nr 12 is the Danish painter Viggo Johanssen.

The black and white photograph was published in the Swedish weekly Hvar 8 Dag in July 1905.

Tsar Nicholas II and his son in 1905

This is a 1905 photograph of Russian Tsar Nicholas II and his son, Tsarevich Alexei Nikolaevich, born on 12 August 1904. Alexei perished with his parents and sisters in Yekaterinenburg in 1918.
