October sailing in the Sound

The skipper of this Swedish sail yacht seemed to enjoy an evening of nice sailing in the Sound today ...

The Swedish coastal patrol craft Östhammar passes by

Coastal patrol craft Östhammar and Kronborg.
Tonight the Royal Swedish Navy's coastal patrol craft Östhammar (SVK 11) passed by on its way to a "classified" destination. The 23.4 m x 5.1 m Östhammar was commissioned in 1985. The ship was decommissioned in 2002, but reactivated in 2008 as a patrol craft in the Sjövärnskåren, the Swedish National Home Guard's boat squadron.

Reefer Baltic Merchant on its way to Panama

It is always nice to see a reefer in the Sound. This evening the Baltic Merchant (146 m x 23 m) passed by on its way from Kronshtadt to the historic port city of Cristóbal in Panama, presumably for a new load of bananas. The Baltic Merchant was built in 1988 and currently sails under St Vincent Grenadines flag.

More October flowers

These flowers will not last long anymore, but today they were still fine for people to enjoy:

The Rabbit and the Magpie

Today, when I tried to photograph a rabbit resting under a small tree, a magpie landed
in front of the rabbit. The magpie soon noticed the rabbit:

At this stage the magpie had not yet noticed the rabbit.

A moment later the rabbit aroused the bird's curiosity.

The magpie was did not seem to bother the least when the curious magpie closed in on it.

Here the two are gazing at each other at very close distance.

At one stage the magpie almost touched the rabbit, which stayed put.

It looked almost as if the magpie wanted to communicate something to the rabbit.
He did not appear aggressive, although I am aware of magpies attacking rabbits.

Then the magpie saw a crow approach, and decided to leave.

The crow landed and started walking, without showing any interest in the rabbit, which
continued its afternoon rest.

PS
After the magpie "incident" I had a chance to continue my original plan.
Below is a selection of the rabbit pictures I shot this afternoon:

Danish tanker Lexus approaching Helsingør

On this picture from yesterday the small Danish tanker Lexus (80 m x 11 m) is approaching Helsingør. The ship's destination is Nynäshamn.

Bulk carrier Sule Viking on its way to Rekefjord

Sule Viking and the Volvo excavator.

The small bulk carrier Sule Viking (80 m x 11 m) was yesterday afternoon going northwards in the Sound. The ship, which was built by the German Lühring Schiffswerft in 1987, was lengthened in 1994 and rebuilt to carry bulk loads in 2007.

Note the Volvo EC360 B 2007 excavator, which is used for loading/unloading.

The Øresund Strait - A Paradise for Sport Anglers

The popular trip/charter fishing boat Tärnö on its way to Helsingborg after a hopefully
successful day of sport fishing in the Sound.

The Øresund strait is the home of some of the best sport fishing in Scandinavia. For those who want to find out more, there is a lot of useful information in English on this page:

For the sport angler, the Sound can offer an extremely varied range of sea and coastal fishing. Here, Cod, Mackerel, Herring, Sea Trout, Garfish, Plaice, Flounder and Dab all bite. If your luck is really in you might pull up the odd Whiting, Haddock, Coalfish Lumpfish, Eel or Salmon. Those fishing in the southern part of the Sound can hook both Perch and Roach. It could mean a really delicious fish soup for those who have got angling and casting down to a fine art, there are many tricks in the trade. For those interested in trying their luck, the best way is to go aboard one of the trip fishing boats. These are manned by experienced skippers and their echo probe can find the shoals. There is usually equipment to hire and for the beginner plenty of advice and tips in the art of casting and hooking.

Yesterday, the anglers on board one of the most popular trip/charter fishing boats, Tärnö, had probably been lucky - otherwise they would not have been surrounded by so many gulls ...

A nice hideaway at the beach in Helsingborg

This father and daughter found a nice hideaway at the deserted beach in Helsingborg. They both seemed to enjoy their snack in the peaceful surroundings:

October images

Autumn colours dominate the landscape in southern Sweden now. But it was nice to discover a meadow full of October flowers among all the autumn leaves:

Sheep personalities

Last night I was counting sheep. Maybe that's way I decided to "count" some real sheep this afternoon, too.

I spent a couple of the afternoon hours in the company of these wonderful animals, gracing in the immediate vicinity of the Sofiero palace. I left the sheep with the impression that at least some of them are real "personalities" ...
